The first step in safely and effectively using your pistol. Get to know your firearm.
The Handgun Fundamentals course is a great way for you to learn the basics of pistol shooting. This is an in-person beginner level firearm safety course – not a marksmanship or concealed carry class. We recommend this course for those who are new to pistols, have limited experience, or want a refresher on basic pistol safety concepts. This class explores the important facets of firearm ownership including safe gun handling, ammunition, maintenance, storage, and basic shooting techniques.
Students will need a pistol (.22 caliber or greater), (ammunition is not allowed in the classroom), eye protection (prescription eyewear acceptable), and a positive attitude. Upon successfully passing Handgun Fundamentals, including basic knowledge exam and simulation shooting lesson, students will meet NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting national standards. Approximately 6 hours of training, including dry fire and simulation firing training.
For those that have your own firearm, bring your unloaded and cased pistol and a cleaning kit if you have one. If you have a gun you intend to use for personal defense, we recommend you bring this gun for the course. If you own eye protection, please bring them.
*Please leave ammo in your vehicle. No ammo is necessary.
